You entered college with excitement, but as you take classes, aren't you curious about what kind of job you'll have after graduation? Unlike what adults say, everything will be solved when you enter college, questions about career paths never stop. This is where the Job Plus Center comes in. Stop worrying alone and receive systematic tests and counseling. This article will explain in detail how to apply and use it.

Freshman Concerns: Choosing a Major and Career Path

For many first-year university students, entering college is both exciting and overwhelming. At Sangmyung University, freshmen often struggle with questions like "Did I choose the right major?" or "What kind of job will suit me in the future?" The gap between high school expectations and university reality often creates confusion and doubt. This uncertainty can affect motivation and academic performance, especially when students feel disconnected from their field of study.

Experiencing Career Counseling Firsthand

To support students in their early-stage concerns, Sangmyung University offers a structured career counseling experience through the SM Challenge e-Portfolio platform. This service includes personal aptitude assessments, personality type analysis, and one-on-one career consultation with professional counselors. In order to provide accurate information on this occasion, I personally experienced one-on-one career consultation with professional counselors. and interviewed them. First of all, the application process is very easy. Go to the SM Challenge e-Portfolio platform and choose a consultant who is in charge of your purpose and field through the list of consultation windows. Then, write the consultation type, purpose, and desired consultation content, and click the confirmation button to complete the application. If the appointment date is confirmed, you can proceed with the consultation on the confirmed date. As a result of the on-site consultation, there were separate consultation rooms, so I was able to talk comfortably, and since they were people who had continued to study the field I wanted to receive consultation on, I was able to eliminate the anxiety that I had been growing up just by listening to my friends' stories through realistic data and actual cases from seniors, and through this, I was able to plan my college life. Above all, I really liked the fact that they told me to come comfortably to receive consultation for each period, such as the school year or semester, rather than solving all my worries at once. I would like to inform you that if you can apply for a consultation, you will be given ample opportunity, not limited opportunities, and that you can receive a full consultation for about an hour.

Other Recommended Programs and How to Participate

In addition to career counseling, SM Challenge offers various programs such as resume and cover letter writing workshops, mock interviews, and NCS (National Competency Standards) job skill training. These programs are designed to prepare students for both short-term academic decisions and long-term employment goals. Participation is easy. Students can log into the SM Challenge platform using their university credentials and register for upcoming programs listed in the calendar. Notifications about deadlines and available slots are frequently updated. Some activities are available online, while others are held on campus. These programs are not only beneficial for students seeking jobs but also for those still unsure about their major or future direction.

Participation Strongly Encouraged

While career exploration is often viewed as something to worry about in junior or senior year, starting early is more effective. First-year students who participate in these programs gain confidence and clarity earlier, which helps them shape their college experience more intentionally.Faculty members and academic advisors are also encouraged to promote these opportunities in class. By normalizing career exploration from the start, Sangmyung University aims to build a culture where asking, "What do I really want to do?" becomes a shared part of the learning journey.Career success doesn’t start after graduation — it starts now.
